ADC Faults ‘Illegitimate’ Expulsion Of Rep. Leke Abijide, Warns Against Hijack Of Party Structures

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned what it described as an “illegitimate and desperate attempt” by certain coalition members within the party to expel Hon. Leke Joseph Abijide, the lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Christopher O. Okechukwu, the ADC said the actions of the individuals involved were inconsistent with the party’s values and aimed at undermining its collective progress.

The statement noted that Hon. Abijide had continued to back efforts aimed at restoring the party’s legitimate leadership structure and convening a credible national convention.

Okechukwu said: “The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is deeply concerned about the recent actions of certain coalition members, whose conduct is inconsistent with the party’s values and principles. It has become apparent that these individuals are not genuinely committed to the party’s growth and development.

“We strongly condemn the attempts by unregistered, self-appointed members of the National Working Committee (NWC) to illegitimately interfere in party affairs and remove an elected ADC representative to the 10th National Assembly.

“This behavior is a clear attempt to marginalize loyal party members and seize control for personal gain. Specifically, we reject the expulsion of Hon. Joseph Abijide Leke, Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency, as illegitimate and unacceptable.

“Hon. Leke’s “offense” was his steadfast support for the existing party leadership structure and his commitment to the ongoing court litigation opposing the illegal recognition of David Mark’s leadership by INEC.”

Reaffirming its stance, the ADC said it remained committed to protecting the integrity of its internal democratic processes and would resist any attempt to hijack its structures.

He said: “The coalition members and the so-called NWC lack the locus standi to punish a bona fide member of ADC, let alone an elected member of the House of Representatives.

“We remain resolute in opposing these actions and reaffirm our dedication to upholding the integrity and democratic processes of the ADC.”
