Lafia, April 11, 2026 (NAN) The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State has elected new state officials to pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The election, held on Saturday in Lafia, was conducted through a consensus arrangement ratified by delegates from the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

Mr John Michael-Abdul emerged as the State Chairman alongside other executive members, including the Deputy Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Secretary and Woman Leader, as well as zonal officials for Nasarawa North, Nasarawa South and Nasarawa West senatorial districts.

Michael-Abdul, in his acceptance speech, pledged to reposition the party as a credible alternative in the state’s political landscape.

He said that the new executive would prioritise grassroots mobilisation, internal democracy and issue-based engagement during and beyond electioneering periods.

Michael-Abdul, a former Deputy Governor of the state, expressed optimism that the party would take over leadership at both the state and national levels in 2027.

“Our mandate is to build a party that reflects the values of integrity, inclusion and quality service to the people of Nasarawa State.

“Today, by your consensus and by this congress, you have entrusted us with the responsibility to serve our great party for the next four years, and we accept it with humility and a strong sense of duty,” he said.

He added that the new officials would develop a comprehensive work plan within 30 days to strengthen the party across the 147 electoral wards, 13 LGAs and the state.

Also speaking, the outgoing State Chairman, Mr Paul Magaji, expressed gratitude to members for the opportunity to serve and urged them to extend the same support to the new leadership.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Mr Kani Jibarang, described the process as peaceful and transparent, noting that all positions were filled without rancour.

He subsequently returned the elected officials following ratification by delegates, after which they were sworn in by Barr. John Matthew. (NAN)
