The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is set to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council as part of efforts to organise its campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Chairman, David Mark, is scheduled to inaugurate the council at 4 pm on Friday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
Politics Nigeria reports that the event is expected to bring together key party leaders, governorship candidates and other aspirants contesting elections under the ADC platform.
The inauguration marks a new phase in the party’s preparations for the presidential election, with its leadership seeking to establish a coordinated structure for campaign activities across the country.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Kola Ologbondiyan, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the National Chairman, said the ceremony would formally activate the party’s presidential campaign machinery ahead of the polls.
“The inauguration formally sets the stage for the ADC presidential campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
Ologbondiyan said the party expected its leaders and candidates at different levels to participate in the event.
Those invited include governorship candidates, National Assembly candidates and candidates contesting seats in the various state Houses of Assembly.
The gathering is expected to provide an opportunity for the party to bring its campaign leadership and candidates together as preparations for the elections continue.
It will also give the leadership a platform to communicate its expectations and strengthen coordination among the different levels of the party’s political organisation.
The party has been working to consolidate its political structures and bring different groups within its fold under a common platform.
The campaign council is expected to provide an organisational framework through which party officials and candidates can coordinate their activities during the election period.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is identified in the announcement as the ADC’s presidential candidate.
This places the party’s campaign preparations to organise for the 2027 presidential contest.
ADC will coordinate its national leadership, state chapters and candidates seeking legislative and executive positions as it prepares to present its platform to Nigerians.
The presidential campaign council is expected to play a central role in this process.
Its work will involve coordinating campaign activities, maintaining communication between the party’s national and state structures and supporting the participation of candidates across the country.
The involvement of candidates from different levels of government is also expected to be important to the party’s preparations.
Presidential campaigns often operate alongside governorship and legislative contests, making coordination between the different candidates and their campaign teams an important part of party organisation.
Ologbondiyan urged ADC leaders and candidates to attend the inauguration, stressing the need for participation across the party’s structures.
The statement did not provide further details about the full membership of the council or outline specific campaign activities to be announced at the event.
The inauguration also follows the party’s earlier decision to appoint Abia lawmaker Austin Akobundu as Director-General of the presidential campaign council.
Atiku had previously described the proposed campaign body as a lean council, suggesting an approach centred on a streamlined leadership structure.
