Academic group solicits support from Nsukka NUJ

A group under the aegis of Association of Nsukka Young Academics (ANYA), has solicited media support from Nsukka Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Dr Nelson Ossai, the President of the association made the call in Nsukka on Tuesday when he led other members to pay courtesy visit to Nsukka Chapel Press Centre.

OssIa said the association was at the Press Centre because it believed that, the media as the fourth estate of the realm would help to promote the agenda and objectives of ANYA.

“The media being the fourth arm of government and watch-dog of the society has the capacity to enhance the success of any organisation through adequate publicity ,” he said

According to the president, the association is an umbrella body of all academic staff of Enugu North Senatorial District below the rank of a professor.

He said the Association which started in 2022, is to complement the activities of Association of Nsukka Professors (ANP) in Nsukka culture zone has no fewer than 1,000 members globally.

The president explained that major objectives of the association include creating environment that would enable the career growth and advancement of its members, providing the platform and vehicle that would promote rich human and natural resources of our people

As well as engaging in activities that would promote job and wealth creation for sustainable livelihood in the district among others.

He disclosed that the association would use her intellectual capacities in achieving her six-point agenda of educational advocacy, mentorship and endowments, entrepreneurship development, facilitating of investments, agricultural support, health /social packages and constructive engagements

“The association shall continue to engage relevant governmental and non-governmental organisations on policies and programmes.

Mr. Chairman, members of NUJ and my colleagues, let me make it clear that ANYA objectives and six-point agenda will be devoid of any partisanship.

“We are here at Nsukka NUJ Press Centre because we know the media represents a formidable vessel for the marketing and promoting of programmes and activities of the people.

“The association strongly solicites the support of the media in terms of publicity,” Ossia added

Responding, the Chairman of Nsukka Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ, Comrade Ikechukwu Odu, lauded the six-point agenda of ANYA, and pledged the commitment of the Chapel in partnering with the academic group.

Odu, stated that there can never be sustainable development in any clime where education, health, agricultural sectors are poorly harnessed.

He stressed the need for entrepreneurship development, adding that the current academic curriculum in the country which promotes rote learning method have failed to address the needs of the people.

Odu thanked members of association for extending hands of partnership to NUJ, assuring that the media would give necessary media support to enable the association to achieve its six-point agenda and objectives.
