Abuja: Suspects Behind Lawyer’s Killing Apprehended by Police

Police operatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have arrested three suspects believed to be involved in armed robbery and the killing of Abuja-based lawyer, Barrister Chigbo Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix. The arrests follow directives from the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, to apprehend all persons linked to the murder and similar crimes.

FCT police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said operatives of the command’s Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, used digital intelligence to track the victim’s mobile phone and conducted operations in Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Dan Tata communities within Kubwa. The suspects arrested are Saifullahi Yusuf (22), Ishau Yusuf (24), and Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia, all from Kaduna State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a notorious “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate known for targeting victims during festive periods. On January 5, 2026, Barrister Mediatrix unknowingly boarded their black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway, where she was threatened and physically assaulted. She was pushed out of the moving vehicle, leading to her death.

The suspects admitted to stealing the victim’s Android phone, which was sold for ₦120,000, with each member receiving a share. Recovered items from the suspects included scissors, knives, a long chain for restraining victims, and pliers, all believed to have been used in their criminal operations.

The FCT Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts to apprehend additional suspects and dismantle linked criminal networks. Residents were advised to remain vigilant, avoid unregistered vehicles, and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency numbers.
