Incidents of people being killed in lodging rooms have been increasing in many parts of the Republic of Kenya.
In the latest case, a woman was discovered dead in a Migori guest house after checking in with a man at night.Police in Kuria West Sub-County, Migori County, have opened investigations into the suspected murder of a young woman found at a guest house in Kehancha Township.
The case was reported on Thursday morning by the owner of Umoja Bar and Restaurant and its adjoining guest house after being informed by the facility’s manager.
The manager discovered the body of the woman, identified only as Monicah, lying on a bed in one of the rooms.
Officers who visited the scene noted that the deceased, believed to be about 20 years old, had foam coming from her mouth.Her hair was dishevelled, with signs that some strands had been pulled out.
Initial enquiries indicate that Monicah had checked into the room on the evening of March 25, 2026, at around 9:00 p.m., accompanied by a man identified only as Mwita.
He is now the main suspect and is believed to have escaped during the night.
Crime scene investigators examined the room, and the body was taken to Kehancha Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.Officials plan to carry out a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, urging the public to share any information that could help in locating him.
Community leaders have also cautioned residents about the risks of visiting lodgings with strangers, stressing the importance of vigilance to avoid such tragic outcomes.
The incident has raised alarm among locals, highlighting growing concerns over safety in guest houses across Migori and other counties in Kenya.
