A disturbing case of prolonged abuse and digital exploitation has been uncovered in Gauteng, where a 34-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly drugging his wife sexually assaulting her and distributing explicit videos without her consent over a period of five years.
The arrest carried out by the South African Police Service forms part of a coordinated, multi-disciplinary takedown operation targeting individuals involved in drug-facilitated sexual offences and the circulation of illicit material. Authorities say the case has exposed a deeply troubling pattern of abuse hidden behind closed doors.
Investigations began after intelligence was received from the National Crime Agency via the British High Commission in Cape Town. The suspect was identified as a key target allegedly involved in “somnophilia,” a form of sexual exploitation involving unconscious victims.
Police allege the man systematically drugged his wife, leaving her in a sedated and defenseless state before committing acts of sexual violence. These acts were reportedly recorded and shared on a restricted online platform without her knowledge or consent, raising serious concerns about privacy violations and cybercrime.
Using advanced investigative techniques, a joint team comprising national and provincial Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) units, supported by the Homeland Security Investigations, traced the suspect to a property in Boksburg, where he was arrested on Thursday, 26 March 2026.
Forensic experts conducting a search of the premises uncovered multiple digital files, including videos and images believed to depict drug-facilitated sexual abuse, as well as material classified as child sexual abuse content. Authorities confirmed that the analysis of seized electronic devices is ongoing.
Further investigations on the same day led to the arrest of a second suspect in Germiston, a 48-year-old man believed to have operated in a similar manner. Police confirmed that the two suspects are known to each other. During the operation, officers also seized electronic devices and two unlicensed firearms found in the second suspect’s possession.
Both suspects are expected to appear before the Boksburg Magistrates Court facing a string of serious charges including sexual assault, unlawful possession of firearms, and violations under cybercrime legislation relating to the distribution of intimate images without consent.
Authorities have described the case as a stark reminder of the evolving nature of crime in the digital age vowing to intensify efforts to combat exploitation and protect vulnerable victims.
