A 72-year-old man and his two children have been arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 28 in Gano, Kano State, over allegations of selling illicit drugs.
The trio, residents of Unguwar Makera in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, were charged after community members, led by the village head of Tamburawar Dan-Tube, Alhaji Auwalu Umar, lodged a formal complaint with the authorities.
Reports indicate that the matter began when the local vigilante head cautioned the elderly man against selling hard drugs. The warning allegedly escalated into a confrontation involving his children, during which a vigilante member was injured.
Police said the suspects were arrested following community reports and were charged with conspiracy, intimidation, and possession of hard drugs.
During the hearing before Magistrate Malika Muhammad, the defendants’ family expressed interest in settling the matter amicably with the complainants.
The court granted the defendants bail under strict conditions, including a requirement that the 72-year-old man must personally attend every court sitting.
