Nigerian cyclist, Myam Emmanuel, popularly known as Emmiwuks, who is on a mission to reach the United States of America by bicycle, has shared a touching story about a fellow Nigerian he met stranded in Guinea.
In an emotional post shared on Instagram on Day 96 of his cycling journey, Emmiwuks revealed that he met Olugbenga Oshimowo, a 45-year-old man from Lagos State, who has been stuck in Guinea after a failed attempt to seek a better life abroad.
“Tonight, I met my Nigerian brother here in Guinea. His name is Olugbenga Oshimowo, 45 years old, from Lagos State. He left Nigeria in 2021 with the dream of finding a better life but unfortunately got stranded in Mali. He was arrested, detained, and in the process, he lost everything. Now he is stuck in Guinea with no means to return home,” Emmiwuks wrote.
He went on to explain that Gbenga currently sleeps around the airport roundabout in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, as he has no shelter or financial means to survive.
According to Emmiwuks, Gbenga said he has relatives in the United States, a sister named Arinola Gudonu and a cousin, Moronike Ayodele, but has lost contact with them and doesn’t know how to reach out.
“When I asked him if he would like to return to Nigeria, his answer was ‘Yes,’” Emmiwuks added.
The cyclist, who has been documenting his adventurous journey across countries, said he decided to share Gbenga’s story to seek help from kindhearted individuals and Nigerians in the diaspora.
“The best way I can help is to share his story with the world, believing that through the power of humanity, compassion, and connection, someone out there can step in to help this brother find his way back home. If you know him, his family, or any way we can support his return, please reach out. Let’s not allow one of our own to be lost in a foreign land. Together, we can bring Gbenga back home. GOD BLESS AFRICA,” he wrote.
