The accused a resident of Digoale village near Leuwfontein was found guilty of subjecting his 13-year-old stepson to a relentless campaign of sexual abuse between August 2019 and September 2021. The offences occurred within the supposed safety of the family home in Masakaneng, a place that instead became a house of horrors for the young victim while the perpetrator was cohabiting with the boy mother.
State prosecutor Advocate Reneilwe Mathabatha painted a devastating picture of a child betrayed by those meant to protect him. The court heard that the man systematically raped the boy on multiple occasions treating the child not as family but as prey. The victim whose courage belied his years endured the abuse in silence before finally finding the strength to testify delivering damning evidence that left the accused with nowhere to hide.
In a victory for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) the court rejected the man’s feeble attempt at a lenient sentence. Magistrate Thabo Maobe slammed the accused as a monster who destroyed a child’s innocence emphasizing that the trust violated was as egregious as the physical crimes.
