A 36-year-old Nigerian lady has reportedly called off her wedding after finding out that her groom-to-be had lied about his age.
The story, which has been making waves online, was first shared by X user @educatedtug01, sparking heated debates about honesty, trust, and age gaps in relationships.
According to the post, the groom had claimed to be 33 years old to appear closer in age to his bride. However, it was later revealed by his mother during a conversation with the bride that he was actually 28 years old, eight years younger than her.
Bride fine with smaller gap, but not the lie
The bride reportedly had no issue with the supposed three-year age gap between them and had been fully prepared for the wedding, which was just weeks away. However, upon learning the truth, she felt deceived and chose to cancel the marriage plans.
He wrote, “A lady called off her wedding because her fiancé lied about his age. He’s 28, she’s 36… but he said 33. She was fine with the 3-year gap… wedding was next month! 😳 The worst part? She found out from the guy’s mom. So… did she call it off because of the age or because he lied?”

Public opinions
TowFunFun noted: “She’s meant to have accepted that guy like that.
Women should know that they can’t get what they want above 30.
If it comes fine, if it doesn’t, manage what you have, because you are past your prime. Who will marry her at age 36? She will soon turn 37, that’s almost 40. Okay.”
boye4christ2006 opined: “The man made the best decision. A home built on lies can never last.”
OlaiboO stated: “Cos he lied, been 36, does not mean she should settle down for anything, if she settles down for anything at 36, she would be out of the marriage at 37. Marriage is never about age, We should not get it twisted.”
itzchristunique added, “She’s the only person that knows why she called it off but from my own perspective, it might be cause he lied. There must be transparency in relationship before you go down to marriage and if that’s not there, then it’s a big red flag o.”
savvymoneygirl opined: “It’s the lie. The facet that you all are more bothered about her age than the lies of a full grown man is troublesome.”
