The Atlanta rapper opened up about the shift during an interview with comedian Pete Davidson on his Pete Davidson Show. During their conversation, 21 revealed some of the changes he’s seen in himself since he had a baby girl earlier this year, comparing the experience to when he became a dad to his first three children much earlier in life.

“My first three, I was younger, running around in the street, it was different,” the rapper explained. “Now I’m in the house. I have the baby all night, making her bottles, changing her diapers. So it’s a different bond type s**t. As I got older, I developed that bond better with my other kids, like I was around day one, but I wasn’t as attentive.”

The UK-born star first became a father 19 or 20, and even though he was involved in their lives, he wasn’t as attentive while he worked to establish his career as a rapper. Now that he’s successful and financially stable, it’s changed his viewpoint a bit about being there for his kids.

“I’m glad I did both, though,” 21 explained about his different eras of fatherhood. “I wouldn’t want to be … how can I put it? I feel like having my kids early motivated me to go get it. To be ambitious. So now I’m glad I had kids then and got to experience both ways of parenting.”

21 Savage and Latto welcomed their first child together in May 2026. According to reports from Cosmopolitan, the Atlanta rappers have been together since 2020, but they’ve kept their relationship private for a majority of their time together.

Once Big Mama confirmed she was pregnant with her first child, the couple slowly brought their relationship to the limelight, and now, they’re sharing more and more about their time together. When asked about that shift during an interview on The Breakfast Club, Latto admits that things get to a point where you’re no longer able to be private.

“I feel like once you start reaching different milestones in life, you can only be so private,” she said in an interview while promoting her album. “I got a baby. I can only be so private.”

When host Loren LoRosa added that her relationship probably “feels good” to the point where she wants to share, Latto confirmed that’s definitely the case.

“I do…I’m more comfortable sharing it in the music, because I’m in that booth alone and I can just speak freely.”
