2027: Why I want to govern Oyo- Reps member Olajide

Rep. Stanley Olajide (PDP- Ibadan North-West/ South-West Federal Constituency), says his decision to seek election to the Oyo State Government House in the 2027 general elections is driven by a desire to deepen development in the state.

Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo, said this in Ibadan when receiving executives of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, on a courtesy visit.

According to him, after fulfilling my responsibilities to the family and attaining success in the technology sector, I chose public service as the next phase of life.

Olajide, who chairs the House Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, said his aspiration was not borne out of entitlement, but out of commitment to Oyo State and loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said he had remained politically stable and loyal to the party over the years.

“I put it before God that I want to succeed my governor who I have been loyal to for going to eight years. Not because I feel it is my right.

“I am a PDP man. I have been with this party from inception to date.

“I have never collected any other ticket or any card of any other party but PDP,” he said.

The lawmaker said his two-term return to the National Assembly reflected public confidence in his leadership and service.

He attributed his re-election to what he described as selfless service and improved performance after gaining a better understanding of legislative operations during his first term.

Olajide said his current position as chairman of the ICT and Cybersecurity Committee had also enabled him to attract development opportunities to Oyo State, especially in digital infrastructure and learning.

He disclosed that he has facilitated several ICT, community and learning centres to the state.

“If we are going to build a digital economy, there has got to be digital literacy.

“So we have to put a whole lot of emphasis on literacy and that is the simplest skills that people need,” he said.

Olajide said that his experience in technology, where he built his career and wealth before venturing into politics, had prepared him for higher responsibility.

The lawmaker, who studied Computer Science and Management at Rutgers University, U.S., said he remained passionate about using technology to solve governance and development challenges.

Earlier, the NUJ Chairman in Oyo State, Mr Akeem Abas, described Olajide as one of the most performing federal lawmakers from the state.

He said that the union would continue to appreciate leaders who distinguished themselves in public service.

Abas said Olajide had remained a consistent supporter of the union and had demonstrated capacity in representation and empowerment.

He added that, judging by his performance at the National Assembly, Olajide was qualified to aspire to lead Oyo State. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
