2027: Southeast Has No Alternative to APC, Says Umahi

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has declared that the Southeast has no viable political alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Umahi urged youths and political stakeholders across the region to massively register with the ruling party, insisting that APC remains the only platform capable of securing the Southeast’s political relevance and development.

He made the call at his country home in Umunaga Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, while addressing APC supporters and stakeholders following the party’s primary election victory of his son, Osborne Nweze Umahi, as chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara LGA.

According to the minister, continued political isolation would be costly for the Southeast, stressing that meaningful inclusion and national representation can only be achieved through active participation in the APC.

“Let everybody go and register in APC. There is no alternative,” Umahi said, calling for a coordinated membership drive across the Southeast states.

He also praised President Bola Tinubu for addressing long-standing grievances in the region, including issues linked to secessionist agitations, which he attributed to years of neglect.

Umahi cautioned against emotional politics and intimidation, saying political progress for the Southeast must be built on engagement, patience and tangible achievements rather than protests.

He added that the current administration has begun correcting historical imbalances and expressed confidence that the Southeast would produce a credible presidential candidate in the future.

“The time of God is the right time,” he said, urging unity within the region under the APC.

Umahi also defended ongoing federal road projects, describing them as critical to national development, and dismissed protests over road conditions, urging critics to pursue constructive engagement instead of political pressure.
