The National APC Christian Leaders Forum of Nigeria (NACLFON) says it will mobilise 50 Christians per polling unit nationwide for the 2027 general elections.
The forum’s National Secretary, Mr Oluwagbemi Olajide, disclosed this on Thursday in Lagos at the launch of its ‘Operation Go for 50’ project.
Olajide said the initiative would be replicated across states and Local Government Areas (LGAs) to increase Christian participation in the electoral process.
He said NACLFON would operate within the law and seek appropriate accreditation where required to observe elections.
According to him, the forum will encourage Christians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate peacefully in elections.
Olajide said the initiative would also support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates nationwide.
“The message is simple. Go out there, collect your PVCs and cast your vote for President Bola Tinubu,” he said.
He urged Christians to assess the administration based on its policies, programmes and performance, in spite of concerns over the 2023 Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.
Olajide said the administration had demonstrated balanced leadership in appointments and policies since assuming office.
He cited economic reforms and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as initiatives influencing support for continuity.
“Once you educate people, you are taking away insecurity, lawlessness and poverty,” he said.
He described the student loan scheme as one of the initiatives contributing to support for the administration’s continuity.
Also speaking, NACLFON’s South-West Coordinator, Dr Abimbola Olatunde, said the initiative was both a political mobilisation and voter-enlightenment campaign.
Olatunde urged Christians to obtain their PVCs, participate in politics and advocate policies promoting justice, equity and good governance.
She also encouraged Christians with relevant competence to seek elective and appointive positions and contribute actively to governance.
“Politics is not dirty; it is a mission field,” Olatunde said, urging Christian leaders to move beyond prayers and participate actively in governance.
She said the enlightenment component would focus on voter education, leadership participation and policy advocacy.
According to her, members would be encouraged to mobilise voters through their churches and communities ahead of the elections.
Olatunde also urged Christian leaders to pray for Nigeria and its leaders while supporting initiatives that promote national development.
Some speakers at the event similarly called on Christians to obtain their PVCs and participate actively in the electoral process.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that representatives of NACLFON and Christian groups from Lagos and other parts of Nigeria attended the launch.
The event featured speeches, drama presentations, song renditions and voter-awareness sessions. (NAN)
