2027 elections: Abia lawmaker attacked over alleged poor performance

Alozie Munachim, the representative for Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency in Abia State, was booed by a group of youths while addressing constituents at a political event in Obingwa.

The incident took place as the lawmaker began to address a large audience assembled for the event.

The youths accused the National Assembly member of inadequate performance, asserting that his representation had not produced tangible benefits for the constituency.

As Alozie attempted to speak, the youths repeatedly interrupted him with chants in Igbo.

They shouted, “Dede lotuo, igaghi aga ozo, nke igara aga, adighi ihe anyi huru.”

The statement roughly translates to, “Senior, please step down, you won’t go again. We have not seen any good impact from your current representation.”

Despite the lawmaker’s efforts to explain his achievements to the people, the crowd insisted on expressing their displeasure.

Supporters of the federal lawmaker, however, described the youths’ conduct as embarrassing and potentially tense at the event.

A member of the Munachim Alozie support group, Kenneth Nzube, said the situation could have degenerated but commended the lawmaker for remaining calm.

“The behaviour of the youths was provocative and could have sparked off violence, but I am happy that Honourable Alozie maintained his usual peaceful character,” Daily Post quoted Nzube as saying.

Alozie’s supporters, however, maintained that the lawmaker had handled the situation peacefully despite the public embarrassment.
