Ilorin, April 13, 2026 (NAN) The All Progressives Congress (APC) elders and stakeholders in Kwara North Senatorial District have renewed calls for the governorship seat of Kwara to be zoned to the region.

The stakeholders said the demand was not based on sentiment but on fairness, equity and democratic balance.

Former Minister of Transport, Mr Isa Bio- Ibrahim, who led other leaders, governorship and senatorial aspirants from the district, made the call during a news conference on Monday in Ilorin.

Bio-Ibrahim said zoning the governorship ticket to Kwara North would accelerate development in the area and promote inclusiveness across the state.

He appealed to stakeholders in Kwara Central and Kwara South to support the move in the interest of fairness and collective progress.

According to him, the current political climate requires unity, understanding and commitment to justice.

He urged the national and state leadership of the APC to consider the position and support the emergence of a gubernatorial candidate from Kwara North in 2027.

“We call on our great party, the APC, to zone its gubernatorial ticket to Kwara North Senatorial District in the interest of justice, equity, fairness and unity.

“This is not a demand based on sentiment, but a reasonable and compelling case grounded in fairness and democratic balance.

“Giving Kwara North the opportunity to produce the governor will strengthen trust and promote inclusive governance,” he said.

Bio-Ibrahim submitted that the district has competent individuals capable of governing the state effectively.

He listed some of them to include Sen. Sadiq Umar, Alhaji Tajudeen Audu, the Speaker of the Kwara House of Assembly, Engr. Yakubu Danladi, and Mr. Mohammed Bio, among others.

He noted that Kwara North has not produced a governor in nearly 28 years of the current democratic dispensation, describing the situation as an imbalance that needs to be addressed.

Bio-Ibrahim said elders and stakeholders from the five local government areas of the district met on April 11, to deliberate on the forthcoming governorship election and the interest of the people.

“Our position is clear. Kwarans, irrespective of senatorial districts, gender, religion and age, should support the call against politics of exclusion in the state,” he added.

Also speaking, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Engr. Yakubu Danladi dismissed claims of division among aspirants in the district.

Salihu said the people of Kwara North were united in their demand for power rotation and zoning of the APC governorship ticket to the region.

He added that the move would further strengthen unity and existing relationships among the senatorial districts in the state. (NAN)
