At least 20 persons have been killed after bandits attacked Dan Gulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, barely two days after a similar assault.
Residents said the attackers rode into the village on motorcycles around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday and started shooting, which made people run for safety.
Community sources said at least 20 people were killed in the latest attack.
Several houses were also reported to have been set on fire, and many residents were still missing when this report was filed.
A resident, who did not want to be named, said the attackers found people gathered under sheds before they started shooting.
“They came and started shooting at us. People ran in different directions to save their lives,” the source told Daily Trust.
On Sunday, bandits on over 150 motorcycles reportedly attacked the same community, killing 17 people, including visitors who came for Sallah.
The attackers also reportedly looted around 20 shops during the raid.
These repeated attacks have left residents afraid, and they are urging security agencies and authorities to step in quickly.
When reached, Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ahmad Rufai said the command got a distress call from Tureta and quickly sent officers to the area.
He also said the command is waiting for a full report from officers at the scene.
