The Senegalese football community is in mourning following the tragic death of 18-year-old goalkeeper Cheikh Toure in Ghana.
The promising young athlete, who trained at the Esprit Foot Yeumbeul academy, was killed by his kidnappers in Ghana. His death was confirmed on Saturday, October 19, 2025.
Kidnapping Under False Pretenses
Reports indicate that Toure was lured by a group of armed criminals who convinced him he was attending a trial to join a professional football club.
Instead, he was abducted, and his captors demanded a ransom from his family.
Despite their efforts, the family was unable to meet the full ransom, leading to the heartbreaking murder of the teen.
Authorities Step In
Senegalese authorities, in collaboration with the Ghanaian police, have launched an investigation into the kidnapping and murder.
A joint task force is working to uncover the full details of the crime and bring those responsible to justice.
Government Expresses Condolences
The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of Senegal expressed “deep compassion to the grieving family” and assured that the investigation is being treated “with the greatest attention and priority.”
Toure’s body is being prepared for repatriation to Senegal, where his family, friends, and the football community will mourn his untimely death.
