17 Convicted in Lagos for Open Defecation, Urination

Seventeen individuals have been convicted and fined by a Magistrate Court in Lagos State for engaging in open defecation and urination.

The state government disclosed this via its official X handle on Saturday, stating that the offenders were apprehended by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

According to the statement, the suspects were arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting at Bolade, Oshodi, where they were convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of ₦40,000 each or face one month imprisonment.

The government condemned the acts, describing them as degrading to public spaces and harmful to the image of the state.

It reiterated its commitment to enforcing environmental sanitation laws, stressing that such behaviour is unacceptable and undermines efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and take responsibility for their surroundings, emphasizing that keeping Lagos clean is a collective responsibility.
