The Defence Headquarters has announced that sixteen officers investigated for acts of indiscipline and alleged plots to overthrow the government will be tried before military judicial panels.
The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, made this known in a statement issued on Monday.
He said investigations into the matter, which began after the officers’ arrest in October 2025, had been concluded.
“The investigation process has been concluded in accordance with established military procedures,” Uba said.
He added that the report had been forwarded to appropriate superior authorities.
According to Uba, the findings identified some officers with cases to answer, including allegations of plotting against the government.
“The findings identified a number of officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government,” he stated.
He explained that the affected officers would now be formally arraigned under the Armed Forces Act.
“Those with cases to answer will be formally arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels,” Uba said.
Uba stressed that the measures were part of internal disciplinary mechanisms.
“The actions being taken are purely disciplinary and aimed at preserving order, discipline, and operational effectiveness,” he added.
He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to professionalism and constitutional authority.
“The Armed Forces remain resolute in maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and loyalty,” he said.
