Wirtz Has What It Takes To Succeed At Liverpool – Lothar Matthaus

Ex-Germany players Lothar Matthaus and Didi Hamann have said that Florian Wirtz will become a fan favourite at Liverpool if he joins the club.

Bayern Munich looked like the potential destination for Wirtz weeks ago, however, progress has been made over the last few weeks by Liverpool to sign him, and they have reportedly agreed on personal terms with the 22-year-old.

Speaking during an interview with Sky Germany, Matthaus revealed that Wirtz would be taking on a huge challenge if he joins Liverpool because it is such a huge club.

He said that the German youngster would need a new mentality to succeed in England, but he believes the confident youngster can make a name for himself with the Reds.

According to him, despite the language barrier he’d most likely face during the first few months, he is sure that Florian has all it takes to succeed at Liverpool and in the Premier League.

“He’s taking on a big challenge. It’s not just a new club. It’s a new mentality, a new language. But: This step also shows that he’s not afraid. Florian Wirtz believes in himself 100 percent – and rightly so. I have absolute confidence in him that he will succeed at Liverpool and in the Premier League. Liverpool doesn’t yet have that kind of game-changing player in his position,” Matthaus said.

Didi Hamann stated that Liverpool must have impressed the Wirtz family during the negotiations, insisiting that it is the only explanation for the German favouring England over Bayern Munich.

He concluded by saying that Florian might have also turned down the German club because Jamal Musiala already occupies the number 10 position at Bayern.

“Liverpool is a global club. They demonstrated that during the negotiations. We’ve had contact for a long time, and we’ve never heard anything. That certainly impressed the Wirtz family as well. Discreet, quiet, everything in the background.

Perhaps that was also a consideration: At FC Bayern, Jamal Musiala is actually the number 10. Perhaps he doesn’t want to share the position,” Hamann added.
