Winning The UEL Won’t Be A Big Deal For Manchester United – Ruben Amorim

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has downplayed the importance of winning the Europa League tonight.

He recently revealed that lifting the UEL trophy will not save the club’s disappointing season.

Speaking during an interview with CBS Sports, Amorim revealed that clinching the cup would not erase the disappointment of a lacklustre domestic campaign, so he is not expecting a victory to immediately make the season a successful one.

Ruben shared that the Europa League cannot be a big deal for a club as big as Manchester United because it is not the EPL or UCL title, therefore, his team is still very far from the ideal goal.

According to him, at the risk of sounding arrogant, he fully believes that winning such a trophy will never be enough for the Red Devils, because of its rich history and the incredible success the club has recorded in the past.

“You can see the environment is completely different. Even in our context. The week of the preparation for the final, even the matches before the final with Athletic Bilbao, with Lyon, the environment of the club is completely different. When I say that it is not the most important thing for our club, I really mean it.

If you win the Europa League at Manchester United, I’m really sorry, it’s not a big thing. You need to go for the Premier League and the Champions League, and we are so far away. That is my feeling of course. It is winning a European title, but it is not enough – and I have that feeling all of the time,” he said.

The Portuguese manager maintained that the season has been abysmal for his team, and the amount of games lost have been simply acceptable for a club that was synonymous with winning years ago.

Amorim, however, added that football will always be about creating memories with the opportunties placed before you, so when the whistles is blown tonight in Bibao, his players will give everything to win the Europa League.

“It wouldn’t save the season because I think it’s been disappointing. There’s been too many games that we’ve lost, far too inconsistent. It’s been a difficult season. It’s been a disappointing season but of course football is about memories, it’s about creating memories, it’s about winning trophies and we have a great opportunity to win a trophy.”
