The US ambassador to Uganda, Natalie Brown has announced that the observer mission in Uganda’s election has been canceled.

According to Natalie Brown who announced this on Twitter, over 75% of the accreditation request sent by her office were denied by the Ugandan electoral commission ahead of the election.

Sadly, I announce decision not to observe #Uganda’s elections due to @UgandaEC’s decision to deny more than 75% of our accreditation requests (see https://ug.usembassy.gov/statement-by-u-s-ambassador-natalie-e-brown-on-cancellation-of-u-s-diplomatic-observer-mission-of-ugandas-elections/…). A robust contingent of observers, including local entities, promotes transparency & accountability.

There are doubts about the election being free and fair as foreign observers have been denied entry into the country. Also, internet providers such as MTN have revealed they have been ordered to shut down until further notice.
