Kuti Breaks Silence After His Release

Grammy-nominated afrobeat artist, Seun Kuti has spoken up for the first time since his release from police detention.

DAILY POST reported that the singer, who was detained at the State Criminal, Investigations and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Yaba, Lagos on the orders of a Yaba Chief Magistrate Court for assaulting a police officer, was granted bail on Tuesday.

Taking to his Instastory shortly after his release, Kuti thanked all those who stood by him during his ordeal.

Delta State Police Command on Tuesday described as “condemnable and unacceptable” the overzealous act of some of its operatives at Ekredjebor community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State.

This was contained in a statement issued by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, in response to a viral video on the activities of the said policemen at Ekredjebor community.

While noting that the command is already aware of the video, the PPRO maintained that “the act of the officers concerned is condemnable and unacceptable”.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the video captured some policemen, who went to the Delta community for an operation, carrying planks and assaulting some people.

The police statement disowned the action of the said operatives, noting that “it is not in the command’s character to assault members of the public who we are supposed to protect”.

Amosun To blame Dangote Relocated Refinery To Lagos — Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday, absolved himself of blame in the situation that led to the relocation of the $19bn Dangote refinery from Ogun State to Lagos.

Abiodun, who confirmed that he was Chairman, Olokola Free Trade Zone, in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of the state during the administration of former governor Ibikunle Amosun, said he was not part of the moves that frustrated Dangote out of the state.

The governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin on Tuesday, said he should not be blamed for the loss.

Dangote had initially chosen Ogun State for the site of the refinery, which was inaugurated on Monday, in Lagos, but discussion broke down between Ogun State government and the billionaire businessman, leading to the relocation of the project to Lagos.

In the statement on Tuesday, he said his predecessor, Amosun, should be blamed Ogun lost the opportunity to host the mega refinery.

Probe Akpabio For corruption, Group Tells EFCC, ICPC

A civil society organisation, Network Against Corruption and Human Trafficking, on Tuesday, asked the anti-corruption agencies to commence investigation of a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, over alleged corruption during his tenure as governor.

The organisation alleged that the fortunes of Akwa-Ibom people were allegedly mortgaged for personal aggrandisement under Akpabio and so the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission should step in and probe the former governor.

The Executive Director of Investigation in the organisation, Samson Tega, and tional Manager, Stanley Ugabe, told journalists in Abuja that Akpabio, who is seeking to be Senate President, was not fit to hold the position.

But when contacted, Akpabio’s Chief Press Secretary, Jackson Udom, described the allegation as a witch-hunt meant to scuttle his principal’s Senate Presidency ambition.
