President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially assumed his duties at the Presidential Villa in Abuja one day after taking the oath of office as Nigeria’s 16th President.

He was received at the state house by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele.

Upon arrival at the villa, Tinubu inspected a parade by the guard of honour. He then exchanged pleasantries with Shettima, Gbajabiamila, and others.

CThe Labour Party (LP) on Tuesday opened its case by calling its first witness before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) in the legal move to nullify the election of President Bola Tibubu.

The court earlier this morning allocated three hours for the hearing in the petition by the LP and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

However, when asked by the court how many witnesses they have in court for the commencement of their case, their lawyer, Livy Uzoukwu (SAN) said the petitioners have only one witness in court today.

SENATE Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, APC, Abia North has asked President Bola Tinubu to as a matter of urgency, scrap the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

Meanwhile, ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, the former Abia State Governor has said that he will not step down for anyone, just as he said that “no one Zone can produce the President of Nigeria.

Recall that the ruling party had anointed Senator Godswill Akpabio, South-South and Senator Jibril Barau, North-West as Senate President and Deputy for the incoming 10th Senate, respectively.

Answering questions from Journalists on Tuesday, Kalu who urged the President to strengthen the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, said that there is nowhere in the act where the Commission reports to the Ministry.

According to him, with no Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the NDDC would then perform excellently well, adding, “It was a beautiful transition. I’m very excited that Nigeria is transiting from one civilian to another without rancour and I’m expecting Tinubu to look into all the abandoned projects like the Ajaokuta Steel mill, and Jos rolling mills these are the source of our debts. Abandoned projects are what is taking out debt servicing.

“Secondly, I will like Tinubu to step on security and some of the ministries and parastatals that are no longer ble like the ministry of Nigeria Delta some of those ministries are not ble, We have the NDDC like we have the North East Development Commission, so the ministry of Niger Delta should be scrapped off, reposition the NDDC to report directly to the president which is what is in the Act. In the Act, there is nowhere they say NDDC will report to the Ministry of Nigeria Delta.

Kano gov sacks Pilgrims Board Executive Secretary

Less than 24 hours after mounting the saddle of leadership, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, in the early hours of Tuesday, sacked the Executive Secretary of the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Muhammad Abba Danbatta.

The governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature, who made the confirmation Tuesday morning a press statement, also disclosed that Governor Yusuf approved the appointment of Alhaji Laminu Rabiu as the new Executive Secretary of the State Pilgrims board.

Also, the hammer fell on the Chairman of the Pilgrims board, Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, who was replaced by Alhaji Yusuf Lawan.

Another prominent member of the board affected by the sack is the daughter of the late Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Jafar Mahmud Adam, Malama Nana Aisha.

The new members of the board are Sheikh Abbas Abubakar Daneji, Sheikh Shehi Shehi Maihula, Munir Lawan, Sheikh Isma’il Mangu, Hajia Aishatu Munir Matawalle, and Dr Sani Ashir.

According to the statement, the appointees are expected to take over the affairs of the board, with immediate effect, so as to ensure successful 2023 Hajj operations.
