Today’s Headlines: Soludo: President Fair To Igbo With Appointments; LP Vows To Take Back Imo State – Daily Post

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has reflected on the distribution of appointments by President Bola Tinubu, saying that he is fair to the Southeast geo-political zone.

The governor, who is the National Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said the president has not marginalised Ndigbo, despite losing the five states during the February 25 election.

Soludo said the appointment of the former governor of Ebonyi State, Senator Dave Umahi, as Minister of Works meant that President Tinubu never considered the regional disposition and voting pattern.

During the poll, All Progressives Congress (APC), on which platform the president ran, got 127,605 votes.

The governor praised the President for what he described as “juicy” appointment to the region when the minister visited him in Awka, the state capital, at the weekend.

The State Working Committee, SWC, of the Labour Party, LP, and the Senator Athan Achonu Campaign Organisation have assured supporters that they are very prepared to “Take Back Imo State” and hand it over to the people.

The SWC and Labour Party Governorship Campaign Council for the November 11 Imo State gubernatorial election stated this in a statement made available to journalists in Owerri, Imo State capital.

The statement reads,” Our campaign is in full gear and we are very prepared to ‘Take Back Imo’ State and hand it over to our people, hence we are inaugurating our campaign council made up of eminent Imolites and great party men.

“The State Working Committee of the Labour Party and the Senator Athan Achonu Campaign Organisation have constituted the Labour Party Governorship Campaign Council for the November 11 Imo State gubernatorial election.”

“The newly constituted campaign council will be inaugurated on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, ahead of the commencement of campaigns for the election.”

“All the members of the newly constituted campaign council are expected to be seated at the venue, Senator Athan Achonu Campaign Headquarters, 158, MCC Uratta Road, Owerri, Imo State, by 11:30 a.m.

“Also expected to attend are all Local Government Chairmen and Coordinators.“

President Bola Tinubu has wooed leaders of countries identified as key partners to his economic development to invest in Nigeria.

In a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s spokesperson, Tinubu met with leaders of Germany, South Korea, and India on the sideline of the G20 summit.

Tinubu was the first head of state to arrive at New Delhi for the G20 summit, following the invitation of Nigeria by Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India.

Modi also invited the African Union (AU), which formally joined the group of 20 top global economies.

Speaking with Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor, at the summit, Tinubu said his administration is designing a financial architecture for an expanded economic partnership with a nation like Germany.

He said Nigeria is orchestrating its economic policies to align with large-scale manufacturers like Volkswagen, a German company.

A Royal Navy warship, HMS Trent, arrived in Lagos on Sunday to aid the fight against illegal activities including piracy and illicit trafficking in the sub-region.

This is Trent’s second visit to Nigeria, the British High Commission said in a statement.

“The visit will help deliver capacity training and support maritime security in the region,” the statement partly read.

HMS Trent departed Gibraltar carrying an expert boarding team of UK Royal Marines and a Puma surveillance drone. HMS Trent’s mission is to support West African allies helping countries to develop capability to fight illegal crimes at sea and ensure they can play an effective role in bringing stability to wider West Africa.

With around £6 billion of UK trade passing through the region, part of Trent’s tasking is to support stability across the Gulf of Guinea through training to help partner navies take the fight to criminal actors, fostering ties and sharing knowledge, whilst conducting patrols to increase security.
