Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) has revealed the meaning of his Igbo name ‘Onwubuasi’.

According to him, not many people know the brain behind the tribal name.

Obi, in a Twitter space monitored by TRIBUNE ONLINE on Sunday, said the name was given to him by his father.

The name ‘Onwubuasi’ means “Death is a Lie” but could also be interpreted as “You cannot Die”.

Akintoye condemns attack on Amuludun FM

The national leader of the Ilana Omo Oodua, Banji Akintoye, has distanced himself from the attack on Radio Nigeria, Amuludun FM station, in Ibadan.

PUNCH reported that angry youths, on Sunday morning, shut down Radio Nigeria, Amuludun FM 99.1 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The suspects were said to have invaded the radio station at 5:30 am on Sunday, chanting comments such as “Oodua Nation has come to stay”, “Yoruba no more under the Federal Republic of Nigeria” and “United Nations will soon declare Oodua Nation.”

However, the suspects were later arrested by security operatives.

Distancing the group from the attack, Akintoye said: “Our attention has been drawn to the activities of a group led by a woman, who claimed to be running a totally different agenda for Yoruba emancipation.

Hajj 2023: 5,518 Nigerian pilgrims airlifted to Saudi Arabia

A total of 5,518 Nigerian pilgrims have as of Sunday airlifted from various departure points in the country to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj so far.

According to information gathered from the Control Centre of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), the pilgrims that have already departed Nigeria are made up of 3,439 male and 2,079 female from a total of 13 flights as of 5:20pm on Sunday.

Seven states have so far been involved in the airlift operations with Nasarawa State having the largest continent of 1,385 pilgrims, followed by Sokoto State with a total of 1,274 pilgrims.

While 239 Benue State pilgrims have been airlifted, Kwara State has 534 pilgrims already in the Holy Land, 847 pilgrims from Plateau State and 429 from Osun State were airlifted. Zamfara State has 810 pilgrims already airlifted.

According to NAHCON, of all 5,518 Nigerian pilgrims already in Saudi Arabia, 549 landed in Jeddah, while the remaining 4,969 moved directly to Madinah. Those that landed in Jeddah have since been moved to Madinah.

The Hajj body informed that of the five airlines approved for this year’s operation, only Azman Air was yet to airlift any pilgrims from the country.

Nigeria releases Norwegian vessel convicted of oil theft

The Nigerian Navy on Sunday returned a Norwegian-registered vessel, MT Heroic Idun, caught attempting to steal Nigeria’s crude oil in August 2022.

The navy arrested the oil tanker and its 26 Indian, Pilipino, Sri Lankan and Polish nationals in August 2022, and later convicted them in court and fined $15 million.

Mohammed Adamu, commanding officer, Forward ting Base, Bonny, handed over MT Heroic Idun to its owner, Idun Maritime Limited at Bonny, Rivers, after it met with the plea bargain conditions.

He said after the seizure of the merchant ship, its crew members were charged to the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt for trial in January.

“The Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), MT Heroic Idun and its 26 foreign crew were arrested after entering Nigeria’s waters unauthorized with intent to lift crude oil.
