Referring to the opening of the Second Niger Bridge and the construction of some projects by Buhari’s administration, Ngige said southeasterners need to understand how to play politics better and not expect people to be in only one party.

The minister also said the projects have vindicated some of them for choosing to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to Daily Trust. He urged Igbo people to stop playing exclusionary politics and putting all of their eggs in one basket during every electioneering period.

He also said he deliberately shut the nation’s land borders to force Nigerians to patronize goods made in the country. The President’s declaration, however, drew the ire of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere, and Middle Belt Forum, MBF, which described his stance as non-committal to Nigeria and that Nigerians would not miss him when he exits office.

But Buhari, who spoke extempore at the commissioning of the new corporate headquarters of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, in Abuja, said he was speaking his mind, reiterating his earlier decision to be far away from Abuja at the end of his administration. He said: “That is why when I became the President, my first visit was to Niger, Chad, and Cameroon because, based on personal and national issues, the neighborhood is very important.

The group under the auspices of Ntipe Ibibio Unity Mission also called on the ruling APC not to bow to pressure from those who are against the candidacy of the “best man for the job.” The PUNCH reports that Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa-Ibom state was announced as a “consensus candidate” by the APC for the position of senate president.

His emergence has raised a lot of dust with certain groups within the party calling for another choice of candidate. However, while addressing the press on Wednesday, the convener of the Ntipe Ibibio Unity Mission, Okon Mkpafit, said Akpabio remains the best choice for the senate president position among personalities from Southern Nigeria and the South-South geopolitical zone of the country.

Massey, in his lead debate, said the bill seeks to provide for the establishment of the EndSARS Victims Compensation Fund. He said, “Distinguished colleagues, you may recall that as a result of the Endsars nationwide protests in October 2020.

“Judicial panels of inquiry were constituted to address the demands of protesters and compensation for verified victims of the EndSARS protest.

“The findings of the judicial panels of inquiry and the Senate Joint Committee on Endsars revealed the killing of protesters, and destruction of private and public properties by rampaging hoodlums, who seized and took over the protest vandalizing and looting valuable assets.
