Akpabio Reacts To Allegation Of N1trn Fraud

Former Niger Delta Minister, Godswill Akpabio has reacted to allegation that he looted over N1 trillion while he was governor of Akwa Ibom State saying it is a plot by those who want to blackmail him out of contest for presidency of 10th senate presidency.

Akpabio reacted to the allegation in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary to Akpabio, Mr Jackson Udom.

“Investigation is no conviction. Every public officer could be investigated after leaving office and that is the right thing to do,” Udom said while reacting to a call by some civil society organisations under the aegis of Network Against Corruption And Trafficking (NACAT) that the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should investigate his boss over alleged financial impropriety.

Tonye Cole Denies Withdrawing Petition From Tribunal

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, has denied media reports that he has withdrawn his petition from the State Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Cole is challenging the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare Siminalaye Fubara of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state.

In a short video clip posted on social media on Monday night, the APC governorship candidate assured his supporters and party members in the state that the petition remained “sure and steadfast”.

Buhari Commissions 1.2km Ikom Bridge In Cross River

President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the 1.2km Ikom Bridge constructed by his administration to boost economic activities in Cross River State. The bridge is located on the major South-North arterial highway.

While commissioning the project in Ikom, at Ikom local government area, Buhari said the project would boost the economic prosperity of Nigerians, adding that recommendation for the construction of the bridge was done by the National Planning Commission some years ago.

Buhari said the Ikom Bridge arises from the headroom inadequacy of the existing bridge and the need to cater for heavy-duty trucks along the project corridor as well as enable Calabar Seaport, airport and free trade zone to be fully functional and accessible to traffic.

Kwara Governor Emerges New NGF Chair

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has emerged as the new Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF). He replaced Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal whose tenure of office would elapse on May 29.

This was contained in a communiqué signed by Tambuwal at the end of the 7th emergency meeting of the state governors held on Tuesday night in Abuja. According to the communiqué, Abdulrazaq emerged through consensus while Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde was chosen as vice chairman of the forum.
