Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has called on Nigerians to support the incoming administration of President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Ortom, who spoke on a television show, lamented the security breaches in his state. He was however hopeful that Tinubu’s government would do better in curtailing them.

The governor insisted the situation could have been averted if President Muhammadu Buhari had listened to him, but said he has forgiven Buhari for unprovoked killings across the country, particularly in Benue.

According to him, the country has not had it so good as far as security was concerned under Buhari, but he believes Tinubu’s government will do better.

He said: “We hope the incoming administration will provide succor, help, security for our people, economic development, and peace for our people. We have suffered for eight years. And what we can do is for all of us to support the incoming government.

The Lagos governorship election petition tribunal has dismissed two petitions contesting the re-election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state.

The three-man tribunal led by Arum Ashom, a judge, on Wednesday, struck out the petitions filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and All Peoples Party (APP).

The petitions were dismissed after they were withdrawn by the parties involved.

At the tribunal, Henry Bello, counsel to APM, said the motion for withdrawal was predicated on four grounds and supported by the two affidavits deposed by Yusuf Dantalle, the party’s chairman.

Festus Keyamo, minister of state for labour and employment, says the concept of minister of state is a constitutional aberration.

While giving a valedictory speech at the presidential villa on Wednesday, Keyamo said raising the issue did not mean he was ungrateful.

The minister said he was attempting to solve an anomaly that has existed for a long time, noting that it was his own way of contributing to constitutional development.

“Mr President, the concept or designation of minister of state is a constitutional aberration and is practically not working for many so appointed,” Keyamo said.
