South African Musician, Black Coffee Wins Best Dance/Electronic Album At The 2022 Grammy Awards
South African DJ, music executive, and music producer, Nkosinathi Innocent Sizwe Maphumulo Black Coffee has joined the tall of Africans who have won an award on the Grammy stage.
He adds this award to his BET award as he was won the Best Dance/Electronic Album award and he won the coveted award with his ‘Subconsciously’ album.
This was his first nomination and he saw off competition from Illenium, Major Lazer, Marshmello, Sylvan Esso, and Ten City.
The album is actually his seventh studio album and after it was released it broke Apple Music and Spotify 2021 records for highest streams.
The album featured some of the world’s renowned musicians and these includes Pharrell Williams, David Guetta, Diplo, and Usher.
Black Coffee was born on 11 March 1976 in Umlazi, South Africa. He was involved in a taxi accident that saw him suffer a severe injury on his left arm, in 1990 celebrating the release of Nelson Mandela.
He launched his career with a remix of Hugh Masekela’s 1972 hit Stimela. Later that year he released his self-titled debut album, and created his record company Soulistic Music.
Aside from ‘Subconsciously’, some of his albums are Black Coffee (2005), Have Another One (2007), Home Brewed (2009), Africa Rising DVD (2012), Africa Rising CD (2012), Pieces of Me (2015), and The Journey Continues EP (2016).
