The remains of former Second Republic member of the House of Representatives and District Head of Wajake, Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Lato, was on Friday laid to rest in Gumbi town, Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State, amid prayers and tributes.
Mai Lato died last Thursday at a hospital in Abuja after a prolonged illness.
The funeral prayer attracted top government officials and dignitaries led by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, APC leader and former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga, Deputy Speaker, Kabir Ibrahim Kware, State APC Chairman, Isa Saddiq Achida, Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, and Chief of Staff, Aminu Haliru Dikko, mni.
Others in attendance included legislators, commissioners, a Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Bello Abubakar, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, political leaders and sympathisers.
Governor Aliyu described the late district head as a devout Muslim and a selfless leader.
He prayed for Allah’s mercy on the deceased and comfort for the bereaved family and community.
The late Mai Lato, aged 80, is survived by three wives and 22 children.
