Real Madrid Confirm They Never Considered Boycotting Copa del Rey Final Out Of Respect To Their Fans

Spanish giant, Real Madrid have confirmed that they will partake in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

Recall that the club recently cancelled their press conference and training session ahead of the clash after their request for La Liga to change the refereeing team was denied.

The request was made after La Liga referee, Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, shed tears during his press conference as he spoke about how his son got bullied in school after Real Madrid TV accused him of bias towards Barcelona during matches.

The shocking scrapping of their training session and press conference immediately led to conclusions that the European champions are set to boycott the Copa del Rey final, however, the defending champions of the La Liga title have come out to confirm that the final will go on as planned, and their players will be participating as finalists.

According to Real Madrid, the club did not even consider withdrawing from the Copa del Rey final like certain reports have suggested, but the reality is that the referee making such inappropriate statements 24 hours before the final tainted a sporting event that would be viewed by millions of football fans all over the world.

The club believes such unfortunate comments will only increase hostility and animosity towards Real Madrid, and it is a shame that officials of the beautiful game are allowing themselves to be used as vessels to disrespect the values of football.

Real Madrid added that the match will not be postponed like reports speculated, especially out of respect for the fans who are scheduled to travel to Seville, and the ones who are already in the Andalusian capital.

“In light of the rumours that have emerged in recent hours, Real Madrid C.F. communicates that our team has never considered withdrawing from tomorrow’s final.

Our club believes that the unfortunate and inappropriate statements made 24 hours before the final by the referees appointed for this match cannot taint a sporting event of global significance that will be watched by hundreds of millions of people. We are also respectful of all the fans who are scheduled to travel to Seville, and all those already in the Andalusian capital.

Real Madrid believes that the values of football must prevail, despite the hostility and animosity that have been demonstrated once again today against our club by these referees appointed for the final,” their press statement read.
