POLICE ARREST OFFICER OVER DEATH OF 3-MONTH-OLD BABY IN ANAMBRA

A police officer attached to the Anambra State Police Command has been arrested over his alleged involvement in the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija, located in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

The command confirmed the development in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed that the officer had already been identified and taken into custody pending the outcome of investigations.

According to Ikenga, the command has launched a detailed investigation into the incident to determine exactly what happened and ensure that justice is done.

He added that the officer is currently facing interrogation alongside other internal administrative procedures in line with the disciplinary regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

The statement read, “The Anambra State Police Command confirms that the police officer allegedly connected with the unfortunate incident that resulted in the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija has been identified and taken into custody.

“The command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to ascertain the facts and ensure that justice is served.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, while expressing deep regret over the unfortunate development, commiserates with the family of the deceased child and assures the public that the command will remain transparent and professional in handling the matter.

“The officer involved is currently undergoing interrogation and other administrative procedures in line with the Nigeria Police Force disciplinary processes.”

The police command also appealed to residents to remain peaceful and avoid any action capable of escalating tension in the area, assuring that anyone found responsible would not be protected.

“Further developments on the outcome of the investigation will be communicated accordingly,” the statement added.
