PMA, Coatings Group partner to drive Nigeria’s $2.7bn paints market

Paint Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMA) and the Coatings Group have partnered to drive Nigeria’s paints and coatings market, which is estimated to be valued at $2.7 billion in 2025 and is forecasted to grow at an annual rate of 4 percent.

The partners stated that Nigeria’s paints and coatings industry presents significant opportunities, driven by rapid construction, urbanisation, and increasing demand for eco-friendly products.

Recognising this growth, the West Africa Coatings Show, held in partnership with PMA, will take place from July 2 to 4, 2025, at the Landmark Centre in Lagos.

This three-day specialised trade exhibition will serve as a key platform for business networking and professional engagement within the coatings industry.

Abimbolu Babatunde, Chairman of PMA, said: “We’re excited to partner with dmg events to launch the West Africa Coatings Show, especially as the region’s paints and coatings market is experiencing significant growth and opportunity.

“With just a month to go, this event comes at a perfect time to support innovation, raise industry standards and create new commercial prospects for local manufacturers. We see this as the start of a strong, long-term partnership that will help drive the coatings industry forward across West Africa.”

With a current investment valued at over N200 billion and an installed capacity of more than 250 million litres of assorted paints per annum, the industry employs over 60,000 people directly and indirectly, according to PMA. This includes jobs in linked industries such as resins, calcium carbonate, kaolin, machine fabrication, raw material supply, packaging, distribution, haulage and painting/decorating services.

“The launch of the West Africa Coatings Show marks an important step for our portfolio and a timely response to the region’s growing demand for industry connection and innovation,” said Paddy O’Neill, Associate Vice President of the Coatings Group.

“We’re grateful for the strong collaboration with PMA and the support of our sponsors, including CAP Plc and Multichem. With momentum building and the show just a month away, we’re looking forward to bringing the industry together in Lagos and establishing a lasting platform for growth across the West African coatings industry.”

In October 2024, the partners signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to organise the first edition of the West Africa Coatings Show, citing an increase in exhibitor participation across West Africa and exposing paint manufacturers in Nigeria to better and latest raw materials, equipment, and technology.
