Former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa has broken his silence on his removal, strongly challenging the legitimacy of the impeachment process and dismissing corruption allegations against him.Returning to Lagos amid a crowd of supportive supporters, Obasa emphasized the importance of adhering to constitutional procedures during his removal.
He vehemently denied the multibillion-naira fraud accusations, calling them “impossible.””I am not disturbed, I am not afraid,” Obasa declared during an address at the Speaker’s Lodge in GRA Ikeja, Lagos. He suggested that the impeachment proceedings failed to follow proper legal protocols.Obasa’s removal occurred while he was abroad in the United States.
Immediately following his ouster, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda from Apapa 01 Constituency was sworn in as the new Speaker. Meranda, who previously served as Obasa’s deputy, has since secured endorsement from the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), a influential body within the All Progressives Congress (APC) party.
The former speaker’s public statement marks his first direct response to the recent political developments, challenging the circumstances of his impeachment and maintaining his innocence against the financial misconduct allegations.
