Former BBNaija housemate Beverly Osu has reacted to Nollywood veteran Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde comparing her career earnings in Hollywood with Nollywood.
The reality star recently shared that people should stop asking others not to compare both countries.
It all started when Omotola revealed that despite spending just 4 years in Hollywood and doing only 2 test projects, she receives monthly residual payments. Meanwhile, after 3 decades in Nollywood with more than 310 projects, she gets no residuals or royalties for her creative work.
Backing her claim with evidence, the Nollywood icon flaunted two SAG-AFTRA pay slips from Hollywood showing proof of her monthly earnings.
Her post sparked a lot of reactions from Nigerians, with some hailing her for opening up, and others accusing her of unfair comparisons.
Also reacting, Beverly Osu responded by saying that what the veteran posted had nothing to do with comparing nations, stressing that Omotola was focusing on the respect America has for its creatives.
She emphasised that the conversation should not be about the regular “first world vs third world” banter, when our concentration should solely be on more value and better structure.
“What Omotola posted is not about comparison of nations. It’s about the basic dignity of the artist.
Art is art. Work is work. Labor is labor. Residuals are a right, not a luxury.
Saying ‘don’t compare 1st world to 3rd world’ is a lazy argument that keeps us trapped,” she said.
Beverly concluded by saying that it does not matter if it is in America, Nigeria, or anywhere else, actors deserve to earn money for their creative efforts even after the cameras stop rolling.
