Nigerian women allegedly detained in Libya Prison cry out for rescue

A video purportedly showing a number of Nigerian women detained a prison in Libya has gone viral online.

In a trending video shared by Dockaysworld on X, the women can be seen in various states of despair and protest as they call on Nigerians and the government to come to their aid.

The viral post has garnered numerous reactions since its posting with many calling on the authorities to get on the matter.

Meanwhile, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NIDCOM, has reacted to the video and urged Nigerians to desist from migrating to Libya subsequently.

The statement reads; 

“We are currently investigating the viral video circulating, but we will like to state that over 10,000 Nigerians were evacuated from Libya a few years ago, based on a memo by Hon.”

“Abike Dabiri-Erewa, approved by the President and a coalition of multi-agency team, Set up to evacuate all Nigerians stranded in Libya.”

“The team visited Libya and the detention cells and ensured all were released.”

“There was a clear warning by Hon Abike Dabiri Erewa advising Nigerians to desist from that dangerous path. But the warning was not yielded to.”

“Over the past few months, @IOM_Nigeria has helped to bring back almost 4000 to Nigeria.”

“Sadly, many continue to return and find themselves stranded again.”

“We have escalated this to multi agency evacuation team led by the ONSA as well as the iom.”

“However, for those who are circulating the video or who have contacts of any of the victims, please furnish us with the cells they are in and, if possible, a contact.”

“There are myriads of cells in Libya and in different cities.”
