Nigerian Breweries Announces Leadership Transition as CEO Hans Essaadi Heads to Heineken Poland

Nigerian Breweries Plc has announced a major leadership transition as Mr. Hans Essaadi, the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, will step down effective June 30, 2025 following the completion of his tenure.

He will assume a new position as Managing Director of HEINEKEN Poland, to continue his career within the global HEINEKEN Group.

Essaadi, who joined Nigerian Breweries’ Board and assumed the role of Managing Director/CEO on July 31, 2021, led the company through one of the most volatile economic periods in Nigeria’s recent history.

Under his leadership, the company delivered over ₦1 trillion in net revenue, demonstrating resilience amidst a backdrop of foreign exchange instability, high inflation and tightening liquidity.

His tenure is also notable for overseeing a historic ₦550 billion rights issue, the largest equity raise in the Nigerian capital market as part of a broad-based business recovery plan.

The capital raise was central to restoring financial stability and repositioning the company toward profitability.

“Mr. Essaadi’s strategic clarity and strong leadership helped to preserve the core fundamentals of the business and secure renewed investor confidence during a period of macroeconomic strain,” the company stated in its official disclosure to the Nigerian Exchange Limited.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Board has approved the appointment of Mr. Thibaut François Baptiste Boidin as the new Managing Director/CEO of Nigerian Breweries Plc.

Boidin is currently the Managing Director of HEINEKEN Romania, one of the group’s largest operations in Eastern Europe.

He brings extensive global experience to the role, having held several executive positions within the HEINEKEN Group. His prior roles include Deputy CEO of France Boissons, Chief Transformation Officer of HEINEKEN France, and Chief Transformation Officer of HEINEKEN Europe, based in Amsterdam.

Before joining HEINEKEN in 2017, Boidin served in the French Armed Forces, operating across multiple continents. He later transitioned into corporate leadership, holding senior roles in major French companies such as Elis and Veolia.

“The Board is pleased to welcome Mr. Boidin as incoming Managing Director/CEO. His depth of operational and strategic experience across Europe and his track record in transformation leadership are expected to be pivotal to the company’s continued growth,” said Uaboi G. Agbebaku, Company Secretary.

Boidin’s appointment signals a continuation of Nigerian Breweries’ alignment with the global HEINEKEN Group’s leadership structure and a strong commitment to international best practices in corporate governance and operational efficiency.

The changes reflect Nigerian Breweries Plc’s strategy to deepen its management bench strength and sustain value delivery for shareholders as it navigates the dynamic consumer goods landscape in Nigeria.
