On December 23, 2024, the Nigerian Army conducted an investiture ceremony at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1 in Asokoro, Abuja, to honor 35 newly promoted Major Generals.
General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Special Guest of Honour, praised the officers for their bravery, dedication, and professionalism, which paved the way for this significant advancement in their careers. He underscored that their promotion is a reflection of their sacrifices and unwavering commitment to national service.
During his address, the CDS highlighted the critical roles these officers play in addressing the nation’s urgent security challenges. He characterized their advancement as a beacon of hope for the Nigerian populace and a call to action to enhance efforts in safeguarding the country and upholding democratic values.
General Musa urged the officers to remain loyal, dedicated, and steadfast in their responsibilities while prioritizing the welfare of the troops they command. He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for endorsing the promotions, assuring him of the officers’ steadfast commitment to national duties.
Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), extended his congratulations to the officers and their families, acknowledging the crucial role of family support in their accomplishments. He reminded the officers to honor the trust bestowed upon them by both the Nigerian Army and the nation.
The COAS also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his strategic guidance, along with gratitude to Defence Minister Muhammad Badaru Abubakar and Minister of State for Defence Dr. Muhammad Bello Matawalle for their support.
On behalf of the newly promoted officers, Major General LG Lepdung conveyed their gratitude to President Tinubu for approving their promotions. He reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of service and their intention to work collaboratively for the advancement of the Armed Forces and the nation.
The ceremony was graced by numerous dignitaries, including Senator Abdulazeez Musa Yar’adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army; Honourable Aminu Balele, Chairman of the House Committee on Army; Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; and representatives of the Chief of the Air Staff and the Inspector General of Police. Also in attendance were former Chiefs of Defence Staff, Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Army Headquarters, Corps Commanders, Commandants of Army training institutions, representatives from the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), and other well-wishers.
