My Acting Talent Is Not Limited To Comedy Roles – Mummy Wa

Popular content creator, Kemi Ikuseedun, a.k.a Mummy Wa, has shed light on the challenges that come with being stereotyped in the Nollywood industry.

The skitmaker recently shared that she is more than ready to show a different side to her if given the opportunity.

Speaking during an interview with Pot-Pourri, Mummy Wa revealed that she has always been eager to flaunt her impressive range as an actress.

According to her, while she is mainly recognized for her comedic persona as Mummy Wa, she never fails to remind people that she is an actor who can do justice to any character she is asked to portray.

Maintaining that she has a lot of depth Nigerians are yet to see, the actress reiterated that her acting talent is not limited to comedy roles.

“Every time I go on set, it’s ‘Please give us that Mummy Wa vibe.And I understand it, the character connects deeply with people. But I always remind them that while I love Mummy Wa, I’m also an actor with range. So, I’ll give you that Mummy Wa magic if the story calls for it, but I’m also open to roles that show other sides of me. Even Mummy Wa sef no be only comedy she sabi, sometimes she get depth,” she said.

She further noted that Nigerian celebrities should learn to show their human side from time to time, stressing that fans need to know that popular figures are not superhumans.

Mummy Wa, however, maintained that celebs showing their vulnerable side online should be a choice, not an obligation.

“It’s a tricky one. Fans follow you because you make them happy, but they forget that you’re human too.I think it’s important to be honest sometimes, to show that even the people who make you laugh also feel pain, confusion, or pressure. But we don’t owe anyone our pain. Vulnerability is a choice, not an obligation. When I share, I do it because I want someone to feel seen, not because I feel pressured. Na balance we dey find , not oversharing, not pretending,” she added.
