Muhammadu Buhari- Niger Republic will defend me if anyone moves against me

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he intends to find a safe haven in neighbouring Niger Republic if any disturbances or trouble arise after he leaves office on May 29, 2023. Speaking at the inauguration of the Nigeria Customs Service Corporate headquarters in Abuja, President Buhari stated that he would prefer to stay in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, but if necessary, he has a good relationship with his neighbours and believes the Niger people will defend him. “if anybody with force moves, I have good relationship with my neighbours. Niger people will defend me.”
President Buhari emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relationships with neighbouring countries, citing his first official trip as Nigeria’s President to Niger Republic, Chad, and Cameroon to solidify these connections. He explained that Niger Republic is closer to his hometown than Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. As his term comes to an end, President Buhari expressed his personal beliefs, highlighting the significance of establishing friendly relations with neighbouring nations for both personal and national security.
With only six days remaining in his presidency, President Buhari’s remarks shed light on his contingency plans and the value he places on fostering good relations with neighbouring countries.
