Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya Early Life

On October 9, 1961, in Gombe Local Government Area, Gombe State, Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya was born into the prosperous businessman Yahaya Umaru’s family.

He received a First Leaving Certificate and a West African School Certificate while attending Central Primary School in Gombe from 1968 to 1974 and Government Science Secondary School there from 1974 to 1979.

In 1983, Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.

Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya Career

He was doing his national youth service program at the Nigeria Bank for Commerce and Industry while he was in Yola, Adamawa State. In 1984, he began working as a full-time accountant for the Bauchi State Investment and Property Development Company (BSIPDC).

He advanced to the position of a main accountant through hard labour. Inuwa Yahaya, the governor of Gombe State, inspects the new isolation and treatment facilities in the state.

Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya served as the managing director of A.Y.U Civil Engineering Company Ltd. from 1993 to 1999. Later, he rose to the position of Administration and Finance Manager at Nasar Motors Limited, a business owned by his family.

He rose the corporate ladder to take the position of managing director for the Nasara Group of Companies. Along with being a director of Premium Pension Ltd., he served as the chairman and CEO of Superior Group.

He entered politics in 2003 after Governor Danjuma Goje named him Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development. In such a role, he worked for seven years.

A founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya ran for governor of Gombe in 2015 and again in 2019. He lost to incumbent governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 election. While Mr Inuwa Yahaya received 205,132 votes, Mr Dankwambo received 285,369 votes.

Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya defeated Senator Bayero Nafada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 364,179 votes to win the governorship on March 9, 2019.
