Leadcity University Confers Honorary Degrees On Olubadan, Others

 

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; Governor Seyi Makinde’s Chief Press Secretary, Pastor Sulaiman Olanrewaju; and other distinguished individuals have been conferred with honorary doctorates at Lead City University (LCU) in Ibadan.

Oba Olakulehin was awarded a Doctor of Science in Public Administration (Honoris Causa), while Pastor Sulaiman received a PhD in Mass Communication and Media Technology.

The honors were conferred during the university’s 17th Convocation ceremonies for 2024, following a resolution by the Senate and Council of LCU.

The university praised Oba Olakulehin as a respected first-class monarch and a custodian of tradition, highlighting his extensive contributions to public service and philanthropy.

In his remarks, the Olubadan, represented by his son, Prince Sunmbo Olakulehin, a former Commissioner in Oyo State, commended LCU for its commitment to providing quality education, especially for Ibadan indigenes. 

He described the institution as a trailblazer and lauded its proprietor, Professor Jide Owoeye, as an outstanding educationist.

In his speech, the Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Gabriel Ogunmola urged graduands to always think of themselves as navigator of change, embrace adversity and the unknown view uncertainty as an opportunity for growth and development.

He said ability of granduands to adapt amid challenges will be critical in achieving success and fostering resilience not only withing themselves but also among the team they will build.

He said: “Today marked significant transition, leadership transcend mere authority or the title one hold, it’s embodies the profound ability to inspire, empower and motivate others towards a shared vision.

“Effective leaders are define not by their power but their capacity to listen, learn and emphasize and connect to those they lead, a true leader set a direction, create vision and executes strategies to actualise that vision.”

In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Kabiru Adeyemi described the convocation as a milestone which reflected not only dedication of students but also support of their families and the commitment of our faculty staff.

He stated that the institution in pursuit of academic excellence, its students have achieved remarkable accomplishments in their respective fields of study and research over the past year, adding that the accomplishments span various disciplines, showcasing the institution’s commitment to intellectual advancement and innovation. 

He said: “Over the years, Lead City University has been at the forefront of developing high-quality human capital, contributing significantly to the growth of our great nation and the world.

“This year’s convocation is particularly special as it reflects the growth and impact of our institution in shaping the future of education, innovation, and leadership.”
