Lady raises alarm as immigration passport slip ends up at akara spot

A Nigerian lady has cried out online after discovering that her passport registration slip, which she submitted at the Nigerian Immigration Service, somehow ended up being used to wrap akara.

The revelation was made in a series of posts shared via her handle, @damisi__awe, on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

According to her, she had recently visited the immigration office for her passport registration.

However, to her shock, someone who went to buy akara was given the snack wrapped in her slip — a document that contains her sensitive personal information.

The person, upon recognizing the document, reportedly reached out to her via WhatsApp with a photo of the slip as proof.

She wrote: “Omo @nigimmigration @NISResponseNG why is it so easy for someone’s privacy to be breached??! Someone just texted me on WhatsApp with a picture of my passport application slip, and it was used to sell akara.”

The slip contains every single information about my life rn. This is not even funny. The guy then asked for my pictures on top.”

The bizarre development has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over how such sensitive documents could slip through the cracks of a government agency and end up on the streets.

See some reactions below:

@iamjackmay: “In 2024, I pointed this out, but @nimc_ng denied any breach. I’ll return to @nigimmigration this year to seek a fix, as I can’t live in a world where I could be easily impersonated.”

@Nini48530012: “This is data breach that can lead to legal consequences.”

@Theorriginal: “Omo! 😳Scary things.”
