Labour Party knocks lawmaker-elect Ogah for praising President Bola Tinubu

According to Punch, The Labour Party (LP) has distanced itself from the remarks made by one of its House of Representatives members-elect, Amobi Ogah, regarding President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style. Ogah had expressed his admiration for Tinubu, stating that he never knew the president was so intelligent and prepared to serve the country. He pledged his support to the president, emphasizing that the interest of the country should supersede party affiliation.

However, the Labour Party and its supporters were displeased with Ogah’s comments. In a statement titled “Hon. Ogah’s position on President Tinubu’s leadership, personal not party position,” the party’s leadership expressed their disapproval. The Labour Party highlighted that such statements should not be made by any Labour Party member, especially at a time when the party’s presidential candidate is fighting to reclaim his mandate at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The statement, signed by the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, clarified that while Ogah has the right to express his personal views as an individual, he does not have the mandate to speak for the party. The Labour Party stressed that his views are contrary to the party’s principles and beliefs. The party is currently pursuing justice through the tribunal, as they believe they won the presidential election but were robbed. They emphasized the importance of an excellent and fair electoral process.

The Labour Party urged its members, who were offended by Ogah’s interview, to remain calm, as the lawmaker has expressed regret for his actions and issued an unreserved apology to the party. The Labour Party focus remains on the pursuit of justice and the retrieval of their mandate. They clarified that their disapproval of Ogah’s comments does not signify any animosity towards President Tinubu, but rather a commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
