“It was a slip of tongue” – Burna Boy apologises to fans amid low ticket sales

Popular Nigerian singer Burna Boy has apologised to his fans during a live performance, following reports of low ticket sales and backlash after a controversial incident at one of his concerts.

The Grammy Award-winning artist, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, addressed the crowd in a video that quickly went viral online.

Incident That Sparked Outrage

The controversy began at Burna Boy’s show in Denver, Colorado, when he noticed a female fan asleep in the front row.

According to reports, he requested that she be removed before continuing his performance, asking her boyfriend to escort her out or risk the concert being cut short.

The moment was caught on camera, sparking heated reactions on social media.

Old Video Adds Fuel to Fire

The situation worsened when an old clip resurfaced in which Burna Boy reportedly expressed a preference for wealthy fans and stated that he does not ask anyone to support him.

The combination of the two incidents led many fans to boycott his shows, resulting in disappointing ticket sales at several stops on his U.S. tour.

Tour Cancellations Follow Backlash

Following the online uproar, Burna Boy cancelled a number of tour dates.

The Armory show in Minneapolis, scheduled for November 28, 2025, was abruptly cancelled just a day before the event, according to Ticketmaster.

Similarly, the Chicago concert set for December 1, 2025, was also called off.

Burna Boy Issues Public Apology

In a video from a Texas performance, Burna Boy addressed the controversy directly, apologising to his fans.

He emphasised that his previous remarks were a “slip of the tongue” and expressed regret for the way the situation unfolded, hoping to mend relations with his fans.

In his words: “I’m sorry, guys. It was a slip of the tongue. I apologize for what I said. I’m so sorry, everyone”
