Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has said that he sent club captain Bruno Fernandes a text after he snubbed a massive offer from Saudi Arabia.
Ferdinand recently shared that Bruno deserves lots of praise for his commitment to the club in the face of generational wealth.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio claimed that he texted the Portuguese international after the news broke, even though he can’t share the details of their conversation.
According to Ferdinand, he would not have turned down the life-changing money if he were in Bruno’s position, and that is him being completely honest.
The former defender noted that rejecting such an offer to stay at a struggling club like MUFC, at 30 years old, proves that the team captain loves the club dearly.
“Listen, I’ve got to be honest with you. I don’t know if I could have said no. He’s 30 years old, at a club that struggling” he said.
Ferdinand revealed that Bruno staying is great news for the club, his teammates and the fans, because he is the team’s goalscorer, assist provider, and chance creator all in one.
Appreciating Fernandes for doing a lot to help the team on and off the pitch, the MUFC legend said that he couldn’t be happier with the midfielder’s decision.
“Bruno’s staying, our most potent goalscorer, our biggest provider, our biggest chance maker, he does a lot and our captain. I couldn’t have woken up this morning happier, and I did message him. I won’t go into the details of that, but what a man,” he added.
After a horrible 2024-25 season, Bruno Fernandes was strongly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League as Al-Hilal were reportedly preparing a lucrative contract proposal for the midfielder.
However, report broke on Tuesday that the Portuguese maestro has snubbed the eye-watering offer to stay back at Old Trafford because he wants to continue playing in Europe.
