IDC Warns Against Political Contractors Aiding Chevron’s Alleged Oppression of Itsekiri People

General Iwedundun Akpakpa, the leader of the IDC, delivered a powerful statement highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the Itsekiri community. He commended the NDLM for their dedicated efforts to address the community’s grievances and pledged the IDC’s unwavering loyalty and support.

The general was particularly critical of political contractors allegedly collaborating with Chevron to further oppress the Itsekiri population. He issued a stern warning, emphasizing that such actions would not be tolerated and threatening severe consequences for those involved. General Akpakpa stressed that the advancement and well-being of the Itsekiri and Warri Kingdom must not be compromised by corrupt political agendas.

Mr. Amorighoye B. Aboyowa, the IDC’s secretary, echoed these sentiments. He specifically cautioned against political contractors who might be assisting Chevron in what the group perceives as systematic oppression. Aboyowa warned individuals seeking personal gain by undermining the NDLM, declaring them unwelcome within the kingdom.

In a decisive move, General Akpakpa declared all Chevron Nigeria Ltd political contractors and supporters within the Warri Kingdom as “persona non grata” – effectively banishing them from the territory. This action underscores the community’s resolute stand in demanding accountability and fair treatment.

The IDC emphasized that the Itsekiri community will no longer tolerate mistreatment or exploitation by Chevron or any other entity. They stressed the importance of addressing the grievances of Itsekiri youths to prevent potential future incidents of pipeline vandalism.

This press briefing represents a significant moment of collective resistance, with the IDC and NDLM uniting to protect the interests and rights of the Itsekiri people.
